The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, reiterated the stance of his party, Morena, regarding the candidacies of family members in the political arena. He pointed out that, although this provision in the Constitution could extend until 2030, his party will not allow family members to run for political office.
During a press conference on Monday, López Obrador once again rejected the possibility of family members of current public officials running as candidates in the 2027 elections. To that end, Morena is expected to implement an initiative that prohibits such candidacies starting from the next elections.
In this context, Senator Félix Salgado confirmed that he was withdrawing from the race to succeed his daughter in the governorship of Guerrero, following the rejection of his candidacy by the governor. For his part, Saúl Monreal also raised his hand to run in Zacatecas.
Given this situation, Morena is evaluating potential candidates in Zacatecas to block the candidacy of Saúl Monreal, who aspires to succeed his brother in the state. Furthermore, a law is expected to be sanctioned in Congress with modifications proposed by the Senate, aimed at clarifying the electoral landscape and beginning to work towards 2027.
Félix Salgado, for his part, expressed on social media that it is too early to talk about candidacies, but he indicated that he is withdrawing from the race to wait for an opportunity in 2027 or even until 2033. He expressed his commitment to Morena and its president, Claudia Sheinbaum.
Apparently, Sheinbaum's stance has managed to align some political figures who had questioned her position in recent days. Despite the internal adjustments occurring in the 4T, it seems that in San Luis Potosí, Senator Ruth González will continue with her intention to replace her husband as a candidate for the governorship.
